There is some water monitoring training being offered by Trout Unlimited TU) this coming Saturday.  (You need to be a TU Member, but you can get an introductory membership for $17.50 that day.)  TU has a new program called Coldwater Conservation Corps.  It is a program aimed at getting the TU chapters and other groups like CCWA geared up to collect base line data for water quality in the coldwater streams across the state of PA.   See the excerpt below from the PA TU website for more details and registration information.

PATU Coldwater Conservation Corps announces training date for 2011 in NWPA.

 – March 19, 2011:  Lucinda, Pa. (Clarion area), at St. Joseph’s Church. This training will be hosted by the Iron Furnace Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

These training sessions will cover topics ranging from basic environmental concerns of gas extraction in the Marcellus Shale to hands-on water quality sampling.  If you are a coldwater fisherman and/or have concerns about Marcellus Shale gas drilling in your area, this day-long training will cover all aspects of gas drilling and what you, as an angler, hunter, or concerned citizen can do to look after your local environment.

Educational materials, water quality sampling kits for chapters (2 per TU Chapter) and lunch will be provided at each training session. Please plan to attend and help to ensure that our fisheries are better protected. Additionally, if your TU chapter would like a presentation about Marcellus Shale for your monthly meeting, contact Dave Sewak to schedule it.

To register, email dsewak@tu.org or call 814-659-1772.

Directions to the training session will be provided upon registration.
