Volunteers Needed for Monitoring

Public Invited to Free Water Quality Monitoring Workshop

Volunteers needed to help assess local water quality

Conewango Creek Watershed Association (CCWA) has teamed up with Dickinson College’s Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring (ALLARM) to launch a monthly Water Quality Monitoring Program, a new volunteer water-quality monitoring initiative.  This program is funded by the Consortium for Scientific Assistance to Watersheds.

The goal of the CCWA Monitoring Program is to collect data on local streams to help inform baseline health and progress on restoration efforts. On June 7, 2023, CCWA and ALLARM will host a community event aimed at informing local volunteers about the program, expectations, and how to collect and analyze water samples from priority Warren County creeks and streams. This is aimed at educating any interested person about the program and volunteer efforts to monitor water quality locally.  There is no commitment implied by attending this meeting.  The information session is free and open to the public, but registration is required: https://bit.ly/ccwamonitoring

Keep your eyes open for an email from us with the date, time, and link to this virtual workshop.

Conewango Creek Watershed Association Water Quality Monitoring Program provides opportunities for volunteer teams to learn about stream science and water quality health. On a monthly basis, volunteers will collect samples from tributaries in Warren County and test the water for the following indicators: temperature, pH, nitrate-nitrogen, stage, water clarity, and conductivity. Additionally, the Volunteer Monitors will look at biological indicators and macroinvertebrates annually to complement the monthly data collection.

Conewango Creek Watershed Association is a local, IRS approved Not-for-profit that started operating in 2001.  Since 1996, ALLARM has provided volunteer monitoring groups with the knowledge, tools, and resources to answer their questions about the health of their local waterways. ALLARM’s goal is to enhance local action for the protection and restoration of Pennsylvania watersheds by empowering communities with scientific knowledge and tools to implement watershed assessments.
